The main rule

Do not choose passive fire products by board name alone.

The same board can behave differently depending on the complete tested system. The correct order is system first, product second.

01
What are you protecting? Steel, concrete, timber, ducts, shafts, walls, ceilings and service penetrations each need different system logic.
02
What fire rating is required? Confirm the FRL or project requirement before comparing board thickness or product type.
03
What does the system detail show? Fixings, framing, joints, sealants, backing rods and penetrations need to match the tested design.
04
What needs to arrive on site? Send us the schedule, drawings and quantities so we can help check the supply pathway.
Fast selector

Choose by the element being protected.

Passive fire customers often know the problem before they know the board. This selector helps narrow the direction before quoting.

Structural steel

Columns, beams and steel members that need protection to maintain structural performance during fire exposure.

Start with PROMATECT 250, PROMATECT XS or PROMATECT L
Walls and compartments

Fire rated walls, partitions and compartments designed to slow fire and smoke movement through the building.

Start with PROMATECT 100, PROMATECT 250 or PROMATECT 100X
Shafts, risers and services

Services, ducts, bulkheads, risers and plant areas where fire protection and enclosure performance matters.

Start with PROMASIL, PROMATECT H or DURASTEEL
Floors, ceilings and soffits

Fire rated floor, ceiling, soffit and overhead systems requiring tested board assemblies.

Start with SYSTEMPANEL 2G, PROMATECT H or specified Promat systems
Promat range

A focused view of the fireboard range.

The page should help customers understand the family first, then send the schedule or drawings for the exact product and system match.

PROMATECT 100 and PROMATECT 250 fire rated board
General fire systems

Passive fire board system
How to brief us

Send the system context, not just the product name.

Passive fire orders go smoother when the quote request includes the application, required rating, board schedule, quantities, drawings and site timing.

Structural steel fire protection board
Steel protection Tell us the steel member, required fire rating, board type if specified and project stage.
Fire rated wall board
Walls and partitions Send wall type, FRL, lining layers, sheet size preference and fixing detail if available.
Service enclosure fire board
Services and enclosures Include duct, riser, shaft, bulkhead or penetration details so the system direction is clearer.
DURASTEEL high performance fire board
High impact areas Flag plant rooms, tunnels, barriers, ducts or specialist environments early.
Common applications

Where passive fire boards are used.

These are the main use cases customers should recognise before diving into board names and technical data sheets.

01 Structural steel protection

Columns, beams and steel members requiring fire resistance.

02 Service risers and shafts

Vertical service zones, risers and protected shaft enclosures.

03 Fire rated wall systems

Partitions and compartments designed to slow spread.

04 Smoke and heat ducts

Duct related systems and service protection requirements.

05 Plant rooms

High risk building services and mechanical spaces.

06 Transport infrastructure

Tunnels, public infrastructure and specialist projects.

07 External soffits

Protected overhead areas subject to rated system requirements.

08 Fire compartments

Protected zones that help separate risk across the building.

FAQs

Questions before you specify.

What level of fire resistance can these boards achieve?

Fire resistance depends on the complete tested system, not just the board. The required FRL must be checked against the project specification and approved system documentation.

Can I choose the board first and work out the system later?

No. Passive fire products should be selected from the required system, rating, substrate, fixing details and documentation. Choosing by board name alone can cause compliance and installation issues.

Are fireboards suitable for exposed interior surfaces?

Some boards can be finished or left visible depending on the product and project requirement. Check the product data sheet, finish requirement and installed system approval first.

How do fireboards perform when exposed to moisture?

Moisture tolerance depends on the board type and exposure period. Specialist fireboards still need correct storage, handling and installation conditions.

Do installers require special tools or training?

Most boards are installed with trade familiar methods, but the tested system details must be followed. Fixing type, spacing, joints, sealants and penetrations are critical.

What do you need to quote passive fire boards?

Send drawings, product schedule, required FRL, board type if specified, quantities, sheet sizes, delivery suburb and timing. The more system context you provide, the faster the quote can be checked.

Project support

Need passive fire boards for a project?
